Ordering a Manual Lab Test
Order a lab test for a patient, with consent, a printable requisition, and a scannable specimen token.
Manual Lab Orders let you order a lab test for a patient directly from their record, generating a printable requisition with a scannable token for the sample.
Where to find it
This is embedded directly in the patient's record — not a standalone page — as a widget on their dashboard.
Fields
- Tests (required, 1–20) — each with a name and test code
- Clinical indication (required, up to 1000 characters)
- Priority — routine, urgent, or stat
- Notes (up to 1000 characters)
- Location (optional, if your workspace has more than one)
Patient consent is required. The order can't be created without it — a missing consent flag is rejected with "Patient consent is required for manual lab orders."
After ordering
The order generates a PDF requisition with a scannable token — see Downloading the Requisition PDF & Specimen Scan. The order then moves through its status pipeline — see Viewing Order History & Status.
