FAQ & Troubleshooting: Accounting
Common questions about journals, drift resolution, and financial year closing.
"Debits must equal credits"
Every journal entry is real double-entry bookkeeping — the sum of debit amounts across all lines must equal the sum of credit amounts, or the entry is rejected before saving. See New Journal Entry.
What's the difference between Void and Reverse on a journal entry?
Voiding cancels the entry directly. Reversing creates a new, offsetting entry — the original stays in your records. Reverse when you need a full audit trail of what happened; void for a simpler correction.
I clicked "Resolve" on a reconciliation drift but the customer/supplier discrepancy is still there
This is expected, not a bug — see Resolving Drift. Customer and supplier balance drift is always reported for manual review, never auto-corrected, because it can go in either direction. Post a manual journal entry once you've confirmed the correct figure.
Why does my Posting Health dashboard show failed postings?
Sales, purchases, and stock adjustments trigger accounting entries automatically behind the scenes, and that automatic posting can occasionally fail. See Retrying Failed Postings — the underlying transaction itself is unaffected either way.
Can I reopen a financial year after closing it?
No — see Closing a Financial Year. Make sure everything is posted correctly before closing.
What's the difference between Making a Payment and Making a Supplier-Specific Payment?
They update the same underlying supplier balance — Making a Supplier-Specific Payment is a shortcut always tied to one supplier, useful when working from that supplier's own record; the general version is more flexible about what the payment applies to.
